Breeding Bird Count

Burr Oak Bend Nature Preserve, Hamilton County, IN
June 6, 2009

Friends,

Our Field Day season is wrapping up… Consider joining
us as we canvas Burr Oak Bend and catalog all the birds singing on territory.  By doing this at this time of year, we can get a good idea of what species are using our preserves for nesting.

Saturday, June 6th: Breeding Bird Count at Burr Oak Bend Nature Preserve in Hamilton County, 7:00 – 10:00 am.  We will break the property into different quadrants, and the species we find in each will help us better understand how well the restoration projects are doing.  Since most bird species are choosy about what habitats they nest in, this information will help guide us in future preserve management decisions.

Participants should bring binoculars and be prepared to walk through wet grass (from morning dew).  Cliff Chapman will identify bird calls of all the singing birds and should be able to point out many of them.

Prior birding experience is not necessary.  As usual, please sign up by either email or calling me at 317-631-5263.  Details and directions will be emailed to participants a few days before each event.  Thanks!
